A Steep climb to Sigiriya Lions Rock- a visit to the spice garden

In the fifth century

King Kashyapa created a magnificent palace complex on the summit, complete with intricate gardens, a water management system, and impressive frescoes. The name “Lion Rock” comes from the giant lion-shaped entrance that once stood on a plateau halfway up the rock.

The view is breathtaking and the ancient fortress with its pools gardens and moats are a must see..

The moat

The three of us climb up narrow suspended staircases with just one line of people going up and one coming down.

We made it to the top and were treated to stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The climb is short but steep, Dawn chose to sit this one out.

We continued to a spice garden tour in Kandy where we also had a decent buffet lunch. We learned about the many healing powers if various herbs.

We were treated to a 10 minute powerful massage.

We closed the day with a cultural dance at the cultural center where we even got to participate ion the stage! It was a bit kitchy and long but fun to watch .

We stayed the night at the small Serenfip hotel perched on a hillside with a great view where we had a decent dinner .

What a lovely day getting a bit of a workout and lots of culture!
