Safari in Samburu,Kenya and a visit to the Umoja Women’s Camp

We left Rwanda To Kenya by flying from Kigali to Naroibi and from Nairobi to Sambutu

We had to spend one night at the Sarova Stanley hotel and another night after our safari.

We stayed in a tented lodge called Buffalo Spring tented lodge- truly a delightful experience filling all your senses of wonder!

We had our own large tent with its own pool overlooking the breathtaking scenery of the Ewaso river – now almost empty- with a mountainous backdrop. It is quite remote, and very quiet.

Only 2 out of the 16 tents were occupied. They went out of their way to make sure 2 vegetarians were very well fed!

We used our pool to refresh ourselves Every night before going up bed as there is no AC in the tents! But it’s a beautiful experience

Edward, Our driver/ guide for the next 2 days picked us up and drove us after we rested a bit in our tent To the Umoja women’s camp.

These women formed their own camp.By supporting themselves making jewelry and by donations, which they badly need. They escaped rape, arranged forced marriages and lots of violence. They always face danger and are in dire need of donations. They received us by singing and dancing and they invited me to join them in their dance. The children and the women were delightful. They built their own houses with mud, bamboo and straw, they sleep on animal skin thrown on the dirt floor. They also cook on the floor.

I admire their strength and feel compassion for all they have to still endure in their daily lives.

How sad it is that so much of this abuse towards women is going on in the world…

We went on an early safari and saw lots of animals.; baboons, giraffes, lots of zebras, elephants, oryx, gazelles just to name a few

We came back to Nairobi and went to a giraffe camp to feed them, these were the Rothschild giraffe, they have a different print

Safari link from Nairobi to Samburu – no more than 15 kilos per person for luggage. Hard to do when this is your 4th country!
