Volubilis, Meknes, Morocco

On a windy and cold day we had the privilege of being shown the ancient city of Volubilus, an archeological site dating back to the 3rd Century BC. It was a thriving agricultural area. It was abandoned in the 7th century. It is the remains ( after being devastated by an earthquake in the mid 18th century) of an ancient Roman city where we still see pillars, arches, thermes, fairly well preserved mosaïques. Then we spend the night in Meknes in Riad Ritaj- ( very basic Riad but great service) and visited the mausoleum of Sultan Moulay Ismael and the Dar Jamai museum filled with antique music instruments. This museum was actually a palace for the Jamai family. It was cold and rainy.
